Dr. Felicia Heyward, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC
Hailing from Sumter, South Carolina, Dr. Felicia Heyward has cultivated an impressive career in nursing, reflecting a deep commitment to healthcare and education. A proud graduate of Sumter High School, Class of 1991, she initially served in the U.S. Army, where she honed essential leadership and discipline skills during her active duty and reserve service.
Her nursing education journey began at Central Carolina Technical College, where she earned a Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1997, followed by an Associate Degree in Nursing in 2003. Eager to expand her expertise, she pursued further education at Chamberlain University College of Nursing, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2010. Subsequently, Dr.Heyward obtained a Master’s Degree in Family Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in 2013 and achieved a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a minor in Nursing Education in 2023. Additionally, she received a Post-Graduate Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing in 2020, enhancing her skill set to address the diverse needs of their patients.
As an active member of the South Carolina Nurses Association, Dr. Heyward has taken on leadership roles within professional organizations. She is currently serving as a Member at Large board member for the South Carolina chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. She, also, serves as secretary of the Psych Mental Health Chapter and is a proud member of the APRN Chapter. Her dedication to nursing leadership was recognized through her participation in the Duke Johnson and Johnson Nurse Leadership Program, where she was an alumna from 2017 to 2018.
In recognition of her dedication to the field, Dr. Heyward was honored with the Central Carolina Technical College Outstanding Alumni Award in 2016. Felicia is committed to continuous learning and professional development, striving to enhance nursing practices while nurturing the next generation of healthcare providers.
